Mustang Sally Saxophone Lesson – How To Play Mustang Sally On The Saxophone

Mustang Sally is a CLASSIC soul song originally by Wilson Pickett in the mid 1960’s.  However, The Commitments give it a good kick with their fantastic version in the early 1990’s as well.

In this Mustang Sally saxophone lesson we have a look at the brass parts for The Commitments version and how to play them on our saxophone.

One of the main ideas in this saxophone lesson is that having fun is arguably more important than hemi-demi-semi-quaver accuracy.  If you are playing along at home and by yourself, then please feel free to explore the ideas in this lesson, take them and run with them.

Add your own lines and riffs, based on what is here in this lesson.

Take them with you to your next band rehearsal and see how they fit with your guitar/bass/drums/keyboard/vocalist friends.  If you are the only saxophone player in your band, then I say play what ever you like !!

(Note – inside the Members Area here at How To Play The Sax there is another Mustang Sally saxophone lesson that goes in depth into the melody for this song too.)

This video saxophone lesson for Mustang Sally by The Commitments is an edited and condensed version.

The full and complete version of this and all of our saxophone lessons are available to our Members inside our Members Area.

In the full Mustang Sally saxophone lesson – as with all full saxophone lessons for all songs that we are learning inside the Members Area – we break the song components down into bite sized pieces.  We slow it down, we dissect it, we build on the individual components until we are confident and comfortable enough to give it all a red hot go.
