Roast Pork and Saxophones

Lockdowns can do strange things to people.

People all over the world have experienced Covid-19 induced lockdowns since March / April 2020.  Here in Melbourne, Australia, we have had plenty of them !

Some people watch Netflix, others bake, many have started new hobbies and some have used the lockdown opportunity to tick things off their bucket lists.

As an aside – it’s been great to watch many people start to learn how to play the saxophone here at HowToPlayTheSax.com !

During the current lockdown here in Melbourne (August 2021 as I type this blog post) I have been playing my saxophone.  Alone: which is ok for the moment, but I REALLY enjoy playing with others.

I count myself as being very lucky…. I play in several bands, I am involved in a musical theatre company, I have musical friends.  I have a wonderful wife, two wonderful daughters, there is food on our table, our lights turn on when we flick the switch, as does our heater if it’s cold outside.

But this current lockdown is proving to be a little bit more stressful for many people across Australia.  The live music industry has been decimated, as has all of the performing arts.

I wanted to cheer myself up a bit, plus I needed to cook dinner anyway.  So, I thought that I would try to create a video that at a bare minimum makes me smile…and hopefully make others smile too.

Two of my favourite things are Roast Pork and Saxophones.

I enjoy singing, I enjoy playing my saxophone, I enjoy cooking (I hate washing the dishes !), so I thought to myself, “Why not add these together and have a giggle in the process ?”

And the above video was born.

I wanted to live the motto here at HowToPlayTheSax.com – Have Fun.  Play Saxophone.  Be Awesome.  Repeat.

In my humble opinion, this video lives up to our motto !

To my Muslim, Jewish and Vegetarian friends, students, viewers and readers: please accept my most sincere and humble apologies for the food choices made in this video.

Special thanks to The Young Rascals for the music, the melody and their AWESOME song Good Lovin’.

And, did you know that the saxophone solo in the middle of this song can be found as Alto Saxophone Lesson 59 inside the Members Area ?

Sing along if you want to !

I asked my family what they want for tea.
They said “Daddy, Roast Pork please.
