How To Play G sharp or A flat on the Alto Saxophone
Hello and welcome to this series of alto saxophone notes for beginners.
In this lesson for Beginner Saxophone Notes, we are going to learn how to play the note G sharp – also known as A flat – on our alto saxophone.
G Sharp = G# A Flat = Ab
These two notes sound the same, but have different names depending on a few things. But they are actually the same note.
Description: Using your LEFT hand, place your three main fingers on the three main keys of your saxophone and press them down.
Using your LEFT pinky finger, press down on the top key – see video above.
Therefore, you are using all four fingers on your LEFT hand.
To play a G# or Ab on your saxophone, you do not need to use any fingers on your right hand.
To play a high G# or Ab, simply add the Register key (sometimes known as the Octave key) using your LEFT thumb at the back of your saxophone.
Simple. Easy.
