How To Play Lily Was Here On The Saxophone
Lily Was Here is a fantastic instrumental song by Dave Stewart (formally of the Eurythmics ) and Candy Dulfer in the late 1980’s / early 1990’s.
It is no secret that I am a HUGE Candy Dulfer fan – if you are into funk and saxophone then you should be too.
Anyway, because of the simplicity of the guitar lines in this song and the wonderful saxophone sort of echoing then embellishing what the guitar has just played in a “call and response” duet, I thought Lily Was Here would make a great saxophone lesson !
That, and the fact that several of my students and Members here at HowToPlayTheSax.com have requested it !!
So – here we go 🙂
This song is a really good exercise in listening too.
We can echo the guitar AFTER it plays it’s line on our saxophone…which means that we need to tune out the exiting saxophone to a certain extent.
Or we can play along with the guitar, and therefore listen to Candy’s beautiful and skilful playing.
So, actually, in this saxophone lesson we do both 🙂
